Make the World Pet Health Month Promise

A special commitment to your pet

This year, from right here in Aotearoa New Zealand, we’re starting something big – a global movement that celebrates the health and happiness of the animals who trust us with their whole hearts: World Pet Health Month.

This year, from right here in Aotearoa New Zealand, we’re starting something big – a global movement that celebrates the health and happiness of the animals who trust us with their whole hearts: World Pet Health Month.

Every day, pets change our lives in quiet, extraordinary ways. They greet us like we’re the best part of their day. They curl up beside us when life feels heavy. They bring joy, comfort, laughter, and a kind of love that’s beautifully uncomplicated.

Make the WPHM promise

We’re inviting you and everyone in your home who loves your pet to take part in World Pet Health Month (WPHM) by making the promise. There’s a pledge for pet owners and a special kid-friendly promise younger animal lovers can sign, too.

I promise to give my pet the best life I can, by:

Keeping them safe and sheltered, making sure they have warmth, comfort, and a place where they feel secure.

Making time for exercise and play, giving them fun, stimulation, and a life filled with moments they enjoy.

Ensuring they’re always identifiable, with a microchip, tag, and anything else that helps them to be returned home if they’re ever lost.

Protecting them from harm, whether at home, outdoors, or around other animals.

Making thoughtful choices, from the products I buy to the activities we do, always keeping their wellbeing at the centre.

Providing fresh water and nutritious food every day so they stay healthy and strong.

Caring for their health with regular vet check-ups and following professional advice to keep them well.

Treating them with kindness and respect, even on the busiest days, because they depend on me for everything.

Understanding their needs and behaviour, and doing my best to offer comfort, reassurance, and a sense of belonging.

Being there for them fully, through every stage of their life, giving them the love and companionship they give so freely.

I promise to help take care of the pets in my life by:

Being gentle and kind, always treating them with love.

Helping with feeding time, making sure they get the right food at the right time.

Giving them cuddles, comfort, and company, so they know they’re part of our family.

Letting an adult know if they seem sick, hurt, or worried, so they can get help.

Learning about what they need, like space, rest, and patience.

Making sure they have fresh water and helping to remind my family when their bowl needs filling.

Helping to keep them safe, like closing gates and watching them carefully outside.

Playing with them and helping them stay active, because exercise keeps them happy and healthy.

Making sure they can be found if they get lost, by helping check their collar or telling an adult if something’s missing.

Taking care of them for their whole life, because pets depend on us and trust us.
