Things You Need

To Know

We know finding the best kitten insurance in NZ can be confusing. Here are a few explanations to help you understand exactly what your PD Insurance policy delivers.

Defined Benefit Limit
This refers to the total amount we’ll pay in a year towards your kitten’s claimable expenses. For example, if you take out our Deluxe Plan the maximum amount in any one year you can claim is $20,000. Across our plans we have a per claim limit, which is the most we’ll pay per claim. Each new event, condition, illness or accidental injury is considered a new “Claim” or “Event”. You’ll find your defined benefit limit and your claim limits outlined in your Insurance Certificate.
Cover/Claim Limit
An insurance cover limit is the maximum we’ll pay in any one year. Generally speaking, the higher the defined cover limit, the higher your premium. We offer three kitten insurance plans, and each plan offers different defined cover limits. As well as a defined plan limit each plan has a per claim limit, which is the most we’ll pay per claim. Each new event, condition, illness or accidental injury is considered a new “Claim” or “Event”. You’ll find your policy’s cover and claim limits outlined in your Insurance Certificate.
Excess
This refers to the amount of money you need to pay when you make a claim with your puppy insurance. With PD Insurance you can choose your excess value at $100, $150 or $200. For example, if you have chosen $200 excess and have a $1,000 claim your excess will be $200 and we’ll take care of the remaining $800.
Waiting Periods
These can vary widely between pet insurance companies. A waiting period is the amount of time that must pass before your cover for a certain benefit will begin, starting from the policy start date. Depending on which PD Insurance cat cover plan you choose, some benefits may have a waiting period.
Reimbursement
This refers to the amount we pay towards your kitten insurance claim.
Pre-Existing Conditions
Like other companies, we exclude pre-existing conditions. This refers to conditions that occurred before you started your policy with us (or during the waiting periods).

FAQ

Paying month-to-month is the ultimate in payment flexibility, which is why PD Insurance offers members this option. We don’t think you should be tied to a yearly contract if your budget or other circumstances don’t allow for it.

Month-to-month kitten insurance works just like a monthly subscription (similar to a video streaming subscription) with no lock-in contracts. This means that you can pay for your pet insurance each month instead of paying an annual premium over 12 months. Month-to-month cover renews each month when you pay your premium. And you can cancel at any time without penalties.

You receive all the same privileges as you would if you paid your kitten insurance annually. Just remember, the applicable waiting periods and annual limits still apply if you choose to pay month-to-month.

The cost of vet bills can easily be thousands of dollars, and can run into tens of thousands. Seriously.

What’s more is that it’s not unusual for some pets to need to go to the vet several times a year.

Our kitten insurance plans cover the cost of reasonable veterinary expenses incurred as a result of accidental injury and/or illness.

Let us take the worry out of your hands.

Yes – after all, accidents happen. Especially when you have an unpredictable animal on your hands!

Rest assured each of the PD Insurance pet cover plans includes accident cover. This means our kitten insurance covers the cost of treating your beloved pet for injuries sustained in an accident. This includes things like choking, being hit by a car and other unforeseeable incidents.

Read more about our coverage in the PD Insurance Policy Wording here.

PD Insurance Classic and Deluxe pet insurance plans cover veterinary expenses incurred as a result of illness, including illnesses arising from hereditary conditions, after the required waiting period has passed. Our Accident Plan does not.

An illness means an unexpected sickness or disease, or any change to your pet’s normal healthy state. This could be an upset stomach, a skin condition or an ear infection, or another sickness/disease that’s not caused by an accidental injury.

Read more about our coverage in the PD Insurance Policy Wording here.

PD Insurance covers hereditary conditions under our Classic and Deluxe pet insurance plans, as long as the condition was not present prior to commencing your cover or during any applicable waiting period(s).

Compare our PD Insurance plans for pets over one year old (dog insurance or cat insurance) and you'll find the same benefits as with your kitten insurance.

Third party liability refers to the financial loss you may suffer if your pet causes damage to other people or their property. After all, pets can be unpredictable.

With PD Insurance, you can rest assured that you’re covered by your kitten insurance as long as:

  • The injury was not suffered by a family member residing with you
  • The property is not owned by you or anyone residing with you (or in a trust held by you or someone residing with you)
  • The damage or injury occurs in NZ

Please read the Policy Wording for limits, terms and conditions.
