2022 is the Year of the Tiger. Whether that means letting your inner tiger roar, getting a pet Toyger (more on this pawsome breed fur-ther down) or celebrating by getting up to adventures with your cat is up to you!

We welcomed Year of the Tiger on 1 February. If you’re an energetic, determined, confident and adventurous Tiger sign then it’s time to shine! Not sure where you stand in the animal kingdom? Not to worry, we’ve listed each of the Chinese New Year zodiac animals here along with their strengths, weaknesses and birth years.

Yep that’s right. Each zodiac animal gets a whole year. Not just one month!

Year of the Water Tiger

The last time it was the Year of the Tiger was 12 years ago. To shed a little light on why this is… In total there are 12 signs and we rotate through these signs year by year. As a result, each sign repeats every twelfth year. Got that? Good!

Also, every sign has five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. For example, last year was the Year of the Metal Ox, and this year is the Year of the Water Tiger. Depending on what year you were born in, you’ll have a specific animal and element that matches your year.

BTW, this is also a sneaky way to find out someone’s age, by finding out their animal sign and looking at when that sign’s birth years are.

Year of the toyger (we kid you not)

Seeing as it’s the Year of the Tiger, could it also be the year of the Toyger? If you haven’t yet heard about Toygers, this is gonna *blow* your mind! The Toyger is a house cat bred to look like toy and a tiger. Got to love it. Seriously, this cat is pound for pound an awesome breed.

Toygers are bred by combining the Bengal cat with other cats. (Pssst, what cat breed is most like you? We dare you to find out). If you’re thinking of getting a pet Toyger you’ll need to set aside a pretty penny. Let’s say roughly in the starting region of $1,000. Now that’s a big investment!

Another worthwhile – yet affordable – investment is a cat insurance plan. You’ll find our customers love how fast, easy and reliable our service is, from claim to settlement. Your cat’s health is valuable, so why not protect it with pet insurance from early on.
