Pampered pets are happy pets, right? This is why PD Insurance has rounded up five pet care products to bag in Felix or Rover’s stocking this year. Grabbing one of these will mean you don’t get the stink eye from your furry bestie this Christmas… Because no one deserves that after the year we’ve all had!
We’re not talking about the usual dog treats and cat collars here (we’ve listed those in our guide to Christmas gifts for cats and dogs). In this article we’ve rounded up five furbulous gifts that double as pet care products.
We know dog treats and catnip toys are lots of fun – read why do cats love catnip – but what about something a little more, shall we say unique? Here’s what we’ve got for your pampered pets:
Pet care products for a super soft landing
From relaxation products to smelly stuff for pets, we’ve rounded up five splendid pet care products for you to take your pick from. Whether you gift wrap these and hide them under the Christmas tree or order them online right away is up to you:

After you’ve done browsing find out about awesome gifts for pet lovers in NZ. There’s lots to choose from for the whole family (including some pretty cool pet friendly getaways for the holidays).
#1 Pet cologne for pampered pets
Pet cologne has arrived and it’s about to ratchet up your pet’s routine grooming routine! Unlike cologne made for people, pet cologne has a dual effect of smelling good and conditioning/detangling fur. Phewww… now that’s fresh.
It’s also made from completely different ingredients from those we use in human cologne. (Maybe it’s not really cologne after all but who can deny the name is very inviting). Instead of containing things like alcohol and perfume, pet cologne is made of gentler, more natural ingredients.
Pets have a pretty awesome sense of smell, which is another reason pet cologne is gentler and milder on the nose. That said, pet cologne fragrances like Fruity Berry, Jasmine and Wild Honeysuckle (above) will spruce up your pet between baths.
#2 Show stopping shampoo and conditioner
Dog bathing can be tricky at the best of times. Thankfully cats mostly do their own thing but hairless cat breeds may need a helping hand…
Regardless, the whole idea of bathing pets has just become a little lovelier with show stopping shampoo and conditioner. From pet care products like leave in conditioner for dogs to tearless buttermilk shampoo for kittens, there’s something for every pet.
There’s also a specially formulated hairless pets shampoo that’s getting rave reviews and we love this conditioning fur mask for shaggy coats (above).
Getting the right pet care products for bathing goes a lonnnng way in preventing cat and dog skin conditions. Choosing the ultimate in modern bathing products can also help protect human skin when you bathe your pet.
Mee-ow, woof!
#3 Brush up on your pet care products
Brushing your pet is one of the best ways to pamper them. Why? Three reasons, actually.
Firstly, it’s a great way to bond with your bestie. Secondly, it helps stimulate circulation. Thirdly, it’s the ideal time to inspect their skin and coat for any lumps, bumps or anything else out of the ordinary that’s trying to get past you. Like pests for example (read about tick and flea treatment in NZ for some facts and tips).
Now back to pet care products… This year, we’ve got our eyes on a handful of beautifully crafted pet brushes for your pet care routine.
We love this palm-fitted brush that removes stray hairs, detangles fur and gets rid of loose debris. Another favourite is this dual-sided bamboo brush. One side is decked out with finer bristles for detangling and the other side has thicker ones for a voluminous brush.
Another of our all-time faves is the DOG range that includes a slicker brush, rake and comb (above)!
#4 Massager for properly pampered pets
As if cologne, brushes and conditioners weren’t enough we’ve pulled the hat out of the bag with this one… Enter the pet massager!
Pets love to be patted and respond well to the positive energy behind it (so too, positive reinforcement dog training). A massager does all this and combines it with luxury. Did we mention a pet massager helps soothe muscles, improves circulation and can reduce the chance of ligament injuries? Yep, it’s a definite win when it comes to pet care products.
There are oodles of options online, from the massager and cleaner-in-one for bath time to the handheld electric cat head massager. You can even go ultra high tech with this dog massage gun:
#5 Award winning pet insurance
Christmas is all about spending time with loved ones and that includes our darling dogs and curious cats! During the festive season, we get to be their parents and double as Santa with these glorious gifts to pamper our pets.
What better pet care product could you pamper your pet with than the loving protection of pet health insurance. Having a pawlicy in place if ever things go awry (from accidents to illnesses and more) means you can treat pets to the medical attention they deserve when they need it most.
PD Insurance gives you one or more months of free pet insurance when you buy online. Why not get a free quote below?
